DRUG & ALCOHOLISM COUNCIL OF JOHNSON COUNTY

PREVENTING & TREATING SUBSTANCE ABUSE

with investment across the continuum of care

Since the 1970s, UCS has increased resources and access to substance abuse services through the Drug and Alcoholism Council (DAC) of Johnson County—a volunteer advisory body that oversees county alcohol/drug planning and allocations. This benefits the community by preventing and treating substance abuse, leading to lower healthcare costs, reduced crimes, child abuse and neglect, and increased employment and productivity. The DAC supports and advocates for the full continuum of care – prevention, education, intervention, treatment and recovery.

The DAC’s primary activity is making recommendations to city and county governments on the allocations of funds generated by the Kansas liquor-by-the-drink excise tax (referred to as alcohol tax funds – ATF) and received through national opioid settlements (referred to as opioid settlement funds – OSF) to support the substance use continuum of care. Non-profit agencies, public school districts and local government entities competitively apply for SUF through an application process to the DAC. Through this process, participating jurisdictions maximize the benefits of funds, and enable thousands of Johnson County residents to access services.
