UCS Releases New Domestic Violence Fact Sheet

As Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to a close, our new fact sheet highlights the ongoing impact of intimate partner violence in our community.

In 2024, more than 17% of all homicides in Kansas were linked to domestic violence, with most committed using a firearm. Locally, Safehome provided shelter and support to nearly 10,000 Johnson County residents, fielded over 7,600 crisis hotline calls, and delivered more than 16,000 shelter bed nights.

The data also show that 20% of people experiencing homelessness in Johnson County were fleeing domestic violence, underscoring the connection between safety, housing, and stability.

While domestic violence filings and high-risk cases have declined since 2020, the need for prevention, support services, and coordinated community response remains critical.

Read the fact sheet to learn more about the local data and prevention strategies.
