UCS helps shape these responses in Johnson County through analyzing data, leading collaborative planning and mobilizing resources. UCS promotes moving upstream to address health and human service issues, addressing root causes before they escalate into more significant challenges. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, Johnson County can create long-term, sustainable solutions that improve the overall well-being of its residents.

CAPITAL HILL ADVOCACY DAY
February 17th, 2026
Join partners statewide on February 17th, 2026 at the State Capitol in Topeka to connect with your legislators and provide education on housing needs and evidence-based homelessness solutions in your region. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for registrants. The day’s activities will include: kick-off with legislators, tabling, legislator meetings, youth homelessness simulations, committee hearings, lunch presentation, and networking. Make sure to join us for training and preparation sessions on January 7th and February 11th.
Each attendee must be registered separately; registration is free. Register!

- February 11 | 2-3:30 p.m. via zoom: Talking with Legislators and Hill Day Logistics
Prepare for Capitol Hill Day:
Make this day impactful for you and your region by reaching out to your regional legislators in advance and asking for an appointment.
- Identify your legislators
- From the Kansas Legislature website, find your legislator’s office number and call to set up an appointment (view script)
- From the Kansas Legislature website, find your legislator’s email and ask them to visit your table and join the event (view script)
- Develop your “elevator speech”
- Complete a quick survey to let KHAN know how your conversations went

- Youth Homelessness Simulations will take place at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. If a legislator would like to attend with you, we can hold a session at any time. Sign up at KSHC’s table on February 17th.
- Lunch will be available for you and your legislators; invite your legislators to join or offer to bring lunch and have a quick meeting in their office.
