Housing and Homelessness Capitol Hill Advocacy Day

Due to inclement weather and to ensure participant safety, we are CANCELLING the February 13th Capitol Hill Day.

INSTEAD (rain or shine), we will host our Capitol Hill Day on March 7th – with the same Agenda.  You will have to re-register for the March 7th event. We will plan a training the week before March 7th to go over current bills and talking points. We’ll continue to post updates to the Capitol Hill Day website.

Please CALL your legislators and ask to MOVE your appointments to March 7th.  If you invited others to join you, please let them know that this event will happen on March 7th and a new registration link will be sent out.

March 7^th, 2025

Join partners statewide on March 7th, 2025 at the State Capitol in Topeka to connect with your legislators and provide education on housing needs and evidence-based homelessness solutions in your region. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for registrants. The day’s activities will include: kick-off with legislators, tabling, legislator meetings, youth homelessness simulations, lunch presentation, and networking. Make sure to join us for training and preparation sessions on January 16^th and February 4^th.

Prepare for Capitol Hill Day:
Make this day impactful for you and your region by reaching out to your regional legislators in advance and asking for an appointment.

• Identify your legislators
• From the Kansas Legislature website, use your legislator's office number to call and set up a 10-minute appointment
  • Sample script for setting up appointment and inviting legislators to events
• From the Kansas Legislature website, find your legislator’s email and ask them to visit your table and join the event
• Develop your “elevator speech”
• Add your appointments to the Capitol Hill Day Scheduling Grid so we can coordinate topics and coverage
• Complete a quick survey to let KHAN know how your conversations went

  • 9:00-9:30 AM — Check-in at KSHC Registration table, first floor.
  • 10:00 AM — Opening speeches, first floor.
  • 10:15, 11:15 and 1:30 PM —Youth Homelessness Simulations (40 minutes). Sign up at KSHC’s table on February 13^th.
  • 12:00-1:00 PM — Lunch, with standing educational booths, on second floor of the Rotunda.
  • 9:00-3:30 — Agency Tabling, first floor.
  • 9:00-3:30 — Legislator Meetings
